Marc Chaikin
Who is Marc Chaikin?
Marc Chaikin is an investing legend with almost five decades of experience. He is a revolutionary technical analyst whose groundbreaking metrics have long provided a directional edge for investors and advisors.
Chaikin is best known for creating industry-standard technical indicators like the Chaikin Power Gauge, the Chaikin Oscillator, the Chaikin Accumulation/Distribution Indicator, and the Chaikin Money Flow. Presently, almost every trading platform in the world uses these indicators.
Many in Fintech also consider him the father of the “first real-time analytics workstation,” and the brainchild of the Thomson Reuters institutional workspace.
Nowadays, Chaikin sits as the Founder and CEO of Chaikin Analytics, a stock-picking platform that uses his proprietary research tools and portfolio management services.
But he didn’t arrive at this point overnight.
Chaikin is a Philadelphian who graduated from Brown University in 1964 with a BA in Political Science. Chaikin’s career quickly skyrocketed after beginning as a stockbroker in 1965. By the 1970s, he became head of Tucker Anthony & R. L. Day’s options department.
Chaikin’s career continued to snowball after he bought a seat on the NYFE to start trading futures.
It was at this time that PCs started hitting the market. Chaikin became one of the first to ever utilize PCs in stock trading. He developed proprietary stock market indicators, pioneered stock price and volume pattern analyses, and began executing trading strategies based on these unique indicators and computer algorithms.
By 1982, he joined Drexel Burnham Lambert and began hosting a TV program on CNBC’s predecessor, the Financial News Network.
A few years later, he founded Bomar Securities LP. and became the managing partner. Bomar changed the course of real-time stock monitoring and database analytics. It also marketed a workstation enabling users to monitor real-time stock price data and analyze historical data. By 1992, Reuters subsidiary Instinet acquired it and brought Chaikin along for the ride.
Chaikin started right away as Instinet’s brokerage house’s Senior Vice President and Director. He spearheaded the front-end development of Instinet’s Research and Analytics workstation and oversaw Instinet Research’s five-person quantitative equity research team.
Yet as he continued to hone in and develop his proprietary metrics, he soon retired in 2000 to spend more time with his family. But his priorities soon changed in 2008 when a lackluster financial consultant lost his wife a significant amount of money during the financial crisis.
Chaikin soon made his comeback and started Chaikin Stock Research. The goal was to bring Wall Street-grade stock tools to individual investors. By March 2011, this venture turned into Chaikin Analytics.
Chaikin Analytics accomplishes the rare objective of simplifying stocks for small-time retail investors and providing advanced resources used by Wall Street professionals. It is a platform for stock trading ideas that uses Chaikin’s suite of stock research tools and portfolio management services.
The platform offers easy yet powerful and practical tools that simplify ratings for 4,000+ stocks and 1,700+ ETFs. The Chaikin Power Gauge Rating is the foundation of the platform. Even though it dumbs down the stock screening process by rating stocks and ETFs on a Very Bullish to Very Bearish scale, don’t overlook it. It has a remarkable track record of outperformance.
The successful performance of Chaikin’s three NASDAQ indexes lends credence to the Power Gauge. These indexes, driven mainly by the Power Gauge, outperformed their benchmarks by over 45% in their first year and consistently since April 2014.
The industry has lauded Chaikin Analytics since its inception:
- In 2016, Barron’s named it one of the “Two Top Websites for Quantitative Analysis.”
- In 2017, it won a Benzinga Fintech Award for Best Trading Ideas Platform.
- On April 30, 2018, the Chaikin Analytics team rang the NASDAQ Opening Bell.
- In 2019, WealthManagement.com named The Chaikin Power Gauge ETF rating system a finalist in the “Industry Research Providers” category for its Industry Awards.
Chaikin makes stock picking simple but also gives well-rounded explanations as to why a stock or ETF received a particular rating. He provides four comprehensive newsletters under the Chaikin Analytics umbrella- Power Gauge Investor, Power Gauge Report, Power Pulse Premium, and PowerFeed.
While Chaikin isn’t in the pit and trading in the trenches like he did as a younger man, his expertise is still highly sought after as he remains a well-respected voice in the investment community. He is a frequent guest on CNBC and often receives praise from fellow Philadelphian and CNBC personality Jim Cramer. He also frequently appears on Fox Business and Bloomberg TV and regularly contributes to Forbes and MarketWatch.
Marc Chaikin Review
You don’t last in the cutthroat investment world for over 50 years by being a fraud or a scam artist. Marc Chaikin has been successfully beating the market for years, and it’s not because he’s a showman, stock pumper, or big talker. Just the opposite. Chaikin is a math nerd who pioneered technical analysis, computer algorithms, and real-time data to pick stocks successfully and anticipate trends.
Chaikin isn’t a guy who woke up one day and decided to start a website to promote stocks. He has been around since the advent of the PC and was one of the first to use a PC’s tools to beat the market. His track record speaks for itself. He is considered one of the top experts in the industry, and his insights are respected. That’s why CNBC personality Jim Cramer frequently praises him. Or why he often appears on CNBC, Fox Business, and Bloomberg TV and regularly contributes to Forbes and MarketWatch.
Sure, Chaikin Analytics has been around for just over 10 years and has already won numerous awards. Sure, his indices powered by his Power Gauge have consistently beaten the Nasdaq since 2014. Sure, Chaikin Analytics simplifies stock picking for retail investors but has a methodology and quantitative analytics powerful enough for Wall Street professionals.
But if you want evidence of how pioneering and legit Marc Chaikin is, go to the Thomson Reuters institutional workstation. Thomson Reuters is one of the largest media organizations worldwide, and Chaikin’s original real-time workstation is essentially that of Thomson Reuters today.
You can also see the influence of his proprietary Chaikin Power Gauge, Chaikin Oscillator, Chaikin Accumulation/Distribution Indicator, and Chaikin Money Flow on almost every trading platform.
The best part? Chaikin is not the type to scare people into using his products. He is a long-time market bull who uses metrics he invented to find the best possible opportunities. In fact, he’s so generally optimistic about the stock market that he attracted media attention for it in 2011 and 2012.
So while many so-called stock gurus love to promote themselves and are essentially more bark than bite, Chaikin has quietly revolutionized how we research and pick stocks for over 50 years. With how things have gone for Chaikin Analytics, Marc Chaikin and his mind could continue doing so for as long as he chooses.
