Currency Wars: The Making of the Next Global Crisis (2011)

Currency wars have occurred for years. They happen when a country purposefully devalues its currency, artificially expands its economy, and compete with other nations. Almost a decade before former President Trump called out China on this practice, Jim Rickards published this book.

In this book, Rickards explains how currencies work. He discusses how governments and central banks manipulate their currencies to boost GDP and how the U.S is in a global economic war that nobody acknowledges. Eventually, this silent currency war could lead to a worse crisis than in 2008.

In best-case scenarios, currency wars lead to countries stealing growth from trading partners. In worst-case scenarios, unchecked currency wars can lead to inflation, recessions, retaliation, and sometimes violence.

Rickards specifies dollar debasement, Greece and Ireland’s bailouts, and China’s manipulation of the yuan as catalysts for a coming currency war. He also calls out easy and arrogant monetary policies as unsustainable, potentially leading to the U.S. Dollar’s demise.

The Death of Money: The Coming Collapse of the International Monetary System (2014)

This New York Times bestseller was ahead of its time when you consider the state of the global economy today.

In “The Death of Money,” Rickards warns that the global financial system will collapse if the U.S. Dollar collapses as the world’s reserve currency.

He notes that we’re at an economic crossroads and teetering on the edge of what could be an unprecedented financial collapse. He mentions how political gridlock in the U.S. and geopolitical tensions with China, Russia, and Middle Eastern oil producers will eventually lead to financial warfare and economic calamity.

He explains how converting paper assets and investments into tangible assets such as precious metals, land, fine art, and more can protect you and your family’s wealth.

The Big Drop: How To Grow Your Wealth During the Coming Collapse (2015)

“The Big Drop” expands on the concepts of Rickards’s first two books and offers readers actionable strategies in anticipation of potentially America’s biggest-ever financial crisis. He provides a blueprint for protecting and building wealth before and during an economic calamity, how to shelter savings, safeguard wealth, and more.

The New Case for Gold (2016)

“The New Case for Gold” discusses how gold remains a store of value, a standard for currency, and a hedge against global instability and market volatility.

A USA Today and Wall Street Journal business bestseller, Rickards examines why gold is prudent to own and justifies why with case studies, monetary theory, and personal experiences.

His blueprint on buying and storing gold aims to change how readers see gold and protect readers from a more significant financial collapse than in 2008.

The Road to Ruin: The Global Elites’ Secret Plan for the Next Financial Crisis (2016)

In Rickards’s bestselling 2016 book “The Road to Ruin,” he provides inside knowledge of the looming financial catastrophe. He cautions that global elites know what’s about to happen and hoard cash while locking down the global financial system.

In a worst-case scenario, this could lead to shuttered stock exchanges and frozen ATMs. Money market funds could also dry up, with asset managers forced not to sell securities, prolonged negative interest rates, and more.

With deep research and historical evidence, he warns readers of the effects of government policy, negative interest rates, cashless currency, and the impact of reckless spending.

As 2023 nears, the concepts in this book eerily foresaw the current economic situation.

Aftermath: Seven Secrets of Wealth Preservation in the Coming Chaos (2019)

Rickards’s 2019 Wall Street Journal bestseller explains the artificial inflation of global markets and how readers can intelligently protect their wealth.

This book came out in the middle of the post-financial crisis bull market and overly inflated investor euphoria during the Trump administration. Rickards cautions that what goes up must always come down and that cataclysmically low-interest rates pumped up stock prices while behavioral economics infiltrated.

He advises everyday investors on enduring an inevitable market crash. For example, he explains that behavioral economists pump up the market and also illustrates why to avoid crypto. He also predicts that active investors will soon have an advantage over passive investors, especially if the financial landscape looks as ugly as it could after the next crisis.

The New Great Depression: Winners and Losers in a Post-Pandemic World (2021)

Rickards’s 2021 release, “The New Great Depression: Winners and Losers in a Post-Pandemic World,” is almost a culmination of what he warned about in his previous works.

A Wall Street Journal and National Bestseller, he calls “The New Depression,” which emerged as a result of the pandemic, “the worst economic crisis in U.S. history.”

He pulls the curtain behind the artificially hot stock market. He foreshadows bankruptcies, the collapse of banks from bad debts, inflation, then deflation, social disorder, and market chaos.

He also provides a blueprint for savvy investors to prosper from the dysfunction. He uses historical case studies, monetary theory, and his deep inside knowledge of the U.S. government to provide context.

Sold Out: How Broken Supply Chains, Surging Inflation, and Political Instability Will Sink The Global Economy (2022)

Jim Rickards’s newest book, “Sold Out: How Broken Supply Chains, Surging Inflation, and Political Instability Will Sink The Global Economy,” will be released in December 2022.

In this book, he discusses the supply chain crisis and aims to foretell what this could result in, in both the short and long term.

Rickards predicts our post-pandemic future to resemble the Great Depression of the 1930s. He discusses trade wars and how factory shutdowns in China disrupt steel production and other raw materials. He also touches on how high inflation will eventually result in deflation and falling consumer spending due to higher taxes, excessive debt, and increased layoffs.

Rickards also touches on the future and potential death of the U.S. dollar.
